27. (Misleading Names.) No insurance company of this
State shall assume the name of any foreign or domestic cor-
poration, or one so closely resembling it as to mislead the
public as to its identity. No foreign or alien insurance com-
pany having the same name or one so closely resembling the
name of another domestic, foreign or alien insurance company
then doing business in Maryland as to mislead the public as
to its identity, shall be admitted to this State.
SEC. 2. And be it further enacted, That this Act is hereby
declared to be an emergency measure and necessary for the
immediate preservation of the public health and safety and
having been passed by a yea and nay vote, supported by three-
fifths of all the members elected to each of the two Houses
of the General Assembly, the same shall take effect from the
date of its passage.

AN ACT to repeal and re-enact, with amendments, Section 44
of Article 48A of the Annotated Code of Maryland (1939
Edition), title "Insurance", sub-title "General Provisions",
providing penalties for acts of rebating and discrimination
practiced by life, accident and health insurance companies,
and officers, agents, insurers and other persons.
SECTION I. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Mary-
land, That Section 44 of Article 48A of the Annotated Code
of Maryland (1939 Edition), title "Insurance", sub-title "Gen-
eral Provisions", be and the same is hereby repealed and re-
enacted, with amendments, to read as follows:
44. Rebating and Discrimination Unlawful (Life and Acci-
dent and Health). No insurance company doing business in
this State shall make or permit any discrimination or distinc-
tion in favor of individuals of the same class and equal expec-
tation of life in the amount of premiums or rates charged for
policies of life or endowment insurance, or in any of
the terms and conditions of the contracts it makes, as an
inducement of such insurance, or make or permit any
discrimination or distinction between individuals of the same
class and of essentiallv the same hazard in the amount
