Code of Maryland (1939 Edition), title "Professional
Engineers and Land Surveyors", and to enact in lieu
thereof nine new sections to be known as Sections 1, 2, 4,
12, 13, 14, 15, 20 and 21 (b) and (g), clarifying the pro-
visions of said sections relating to professional engineers
and land surveyors.
SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Maryland,
That Sections 1, 2, 4, 12, 13, 14, 15, 17, 20 and 21 (b) and
(g) of Article 75 1/2 of the Annotated Code of Maryland
(1939 Edition), title "Professional Engineers and Land
Surveyors", be and they are hereby repealed, and that nine
new sections to be known as Sections 1, 2, 4, 12, 13, 15, 20
and 21 (b) and (g) be and they are hereby enacted in lieu
thereof, and all to read as follows:
1. General Provisions. It is hereby declared that, in
order to safeguard life, health and property, and to pro-
mote the public welfare, any person practicing or offering
to practice engineering or land surveying, shall hereafter
be required to submit evidence that he is qualified so to
practice and shall be registered as hereinafter provided;
and it shall be unlawful for any person to practice or to
offer to practice in this State, engineering or land survey-
ing, as defined in the provisions of this Act, or to use in
connection with his name or otherwise assume, use, or
advertise any title or description tending to convey the
impression that he is a professional engineer or a land
surveyor, unless such person has been duly registered
under the provisions of this Act.
2. Definitions.
(a) The term "Engineer" as used in this Act shall
mean a Professional Engineer as hereinafter defined.
(b) The term "Professional Engineer" within the
meaning and intent of this Act shall mean a person who,
by reason of his special knowledge of the mathematical
and physical sciences and the principles and methods of
engineering analysis and design, acquired by professional
education and practical experience, is qualified to prac-
tice engineering as hereinafter defined, as attested by his
legal registration as a Professional Engineer.
(c) The term "Engineer-in-Training" as used in this
Act shall mean a candidate for registration as a Pro-
fessional Engineer who is a graduate in an approved en-
gineering curriculum of four years or more from a school
or college approved by the Board as of satisfactory stand-
