CHAPTER 678.

(Senate Bill 449)

AN ACT to repeal and re-enact, with amendments, Sec-
tion 20 of Article 51 of the Annotated Code of Maryland
(1939 Edition), title "Juries", sub-title "Qualification
and Selection of Jurors", as said section was amended
by Chapter 885 of 1945, eliminating the provision ex-
empting Baltimore City and Baltimore County from
said section and relating to the compensation of jurors
in Baltimore City, and to repeal Section 710 of Article
4 of the Code of Public Local Laws & Baltimore City
Charter 1938 Edition), title "Baltimore City", sub-title
"Jurors", and Sections 387 and 391H of Article 3 of the
Code of Public Local Laws of Maryland (1930 Edition),
title "Baltimore County", sub-title "Jurors".

SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Maryland,
That Section 20 of Article 51 of the Annotated Code of
Maryland (1939 Edition), title "Juries", sub-title Qualifi-
cation and Selection of Jurors", as said section was amen-
ded by Chapter 885 of 1945, be and it is hereby repealed
and re-enacted, with amendments, to read as follows:

20. Jurors in Anne Arundel County shall receive three
dollars and fifty cents per day, in Carroll County, four
dollars per day and in all the other Counties, five dollars
per day for each and every day they shall attend the several
courts of this State as jurors and fifteen cents for each
mile over five miles for going to and returning from the
court, once in each term, to be paid by the Counties, respec-
tively, in which courts are held. Jurors in Baltimore City
shall receive such compensation as shall be provided in the
Ordinance of Estimates of said City each year.

It shall be the duty of the County Commissioners of the
several Counties and of the Mayor and City Council of
Baltimore to levy each year a sufficient sum to pay for the
compensation of jurors, as provided by this section.

SEC. 2. And be it further enacted, That Section 710 of
Article 4 of the Code of Public Local Laws & Baltimore
City Charter (1938 Edition), title "Baltimore City", sub-
title "Jurors", and Sections 387 and 391H of Article 3
of the Code of Public Local Laws of Maryland (1930
Edition), title "Baltimore County", sub-title "Jurors",
be and they are hereby repealed.
