being held for the purpose of ascertaining and determin-
ing the persons entitled to vote at said election. The polls
for the election aforesaid shall be opened at the court house
in said town at the hour of 9 o'clock A. M., and shall be
closed at 6 o'clock P. M. No vote shall be taken before
or after said hours respectively. And after the polls are
closed the said judge shall proceed forthwith, in the pres-
ence of such persons as may attend, to count the ballots,
and shall ascertain and publicly declare the three persons
having the highest number of votes during the election
held on the first Monday of April nineteen hundred and
forty-eight duly elected Town Commissioners of Centreville
for the ensuing three years, two years, and one year as
aforesaid and until their successors have qualified. There-
after when the polls are closed at the election held on
the first Monday of April in the year nineteen hundred
and forty-nine and each year thereafter the said Judge
shall proceed forthwith in the presence of such persons
as may attend to count the ballots and shall ascertain and
publicly declare the person having the highest number of
votes duly elected Town Commissioner of Centreville for
the ensuing three years and until his or her successor has
qualified; and the said justice of the peace shall receive
for acting as judge of election the sum of eight dollars,
and the said clerk shall receive the sum of five dollars,
to be paid by said town. If at any election for a commis-
sioner held on the 1st Monday of April nineteen hundred
and forty-nine and each year thereafter there shall be
a tie vote between any candidate for the office of Town
Commissioner a new election shall be held.

SEC. 2. And be it further enacted, That this Act shall
take effect June 1, 1947.

(Senate Bill 379)

AN ACT to repeal and re-enact, with amendments, Section
14 of Chapter 548 of the Acts of 1937, as said section
was amended by Chapter 846 of the Acts of 1945, relat-
ing to the annual tax limit on the assessable property
of the town of Ridgely, Caroline County.

SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Maryland,
That Section 14 of Chapter 548 of the Acts of 1937, as
