On motion by Mr. Sulivane,

Leave was granted to the Committee on Judicial Proceed-
ings to introduce a bill entitled an Act for the recodification
of the Laws of Maryland.

On motion by Mr. Sulivane,

Leave was granted to the Committee on Judicial Proceed-
ings to introduce a bill entitled an Act assigning the interest
of the State of Maryland in certain personal assets of Cyntice
Cannon, a deceased intestate born out of wedlock, unto
Catharine M. Cannon, of Dorchester county.

On motion by Mr. Stump,

Leave was granted to the Committee on Judicial Proceed-
ings to introduce a bill to repeal an Act, passed at the
January Session of 1868, entitled an Act to add new sections
to Article 51, of the Code of Public General Laws, entitled
"Justices of the Peace, " and to re-enact the same with
amendments.

On motion by Mr. Combs, of St. Mary's,
Leave was granted to the Committee on Judicial Proceed-
ings to introduce a bill to cede to the United States the title
to the land occupied by the Antietam National Cemetery,
near Sharpsburg, Washington county, and to cede jurisdic-
tion over the same.

On motion by Mr. Bannon,

Leave was granted to the Committee on Judicial Proceed-
ings to introduce a bill to repeal and re-enact with amend-
ments an Act passed at January Session 1876, in relation to
license on foreign insurance companies.

The Clerk of the House of Delegates appeared and de-
livered the following message:

BY THE HOUSE OF DELEGATES,

January 11th, 1878.
Gentlemen of the Senate:

We respectfully propose with the concurrence of your
Honorable Body, to go into Joint Convention this day, in
the Hall of the House of Delegates, at one o'clock P. M.,
for the election of a Police Commissioner by ballot, for the
term of six years, in the place of Col. Harry Gilmore, whose
term of office will expire before the meeting of the next
General Assembly.
