The people of Maryland have reason to be proud of their school system, of
the superintendents, other officials and the school teachers -of our State. No
phase of governmental activity has such far-reaching effect as that relating to
public education. The drastic changes in the social and economic order to be
faced by the students now in the schools when they reach maturity, will require
the best trained intellects to enable the new American citizen to match anyone
or anything in the world.
My continuing and steadfast interest in the public school system shall ever
be manifested. I give unqualified assurance that, following the marked ad-
vances during the past four years of my Administration, I will support and make
possible further improvements in the next four years, so that Maryland's Public
School System will remain second to none in the Country!
I leave to your judgment whether or not it is safer to continue this Ad-
ministration than to place it in untried hands!
