of the world hope for future Peace and security. Until that day of Victory
comes, no sacrifice can be too great, no effort too much to achieve that
victorious peace we all desire so keenly.

The Star Spangled Banner, still flying proudly in the breeze, as it did
here on that fateful morning 128 years ago, is a symbol of individual liberty
and personal security such as no other country in the whole world, or in the
whole of history, has ever produced. Today, more than ever in the past
century and a quarter, it is the remaining symbol which radiates assurance
of individual liberty and collective security.

Marylanders, of whom Francis Scott Key was one, have ever pledged
fealty to this Flag. Marylanders today are no less determined that it shall
never know defeat. This typical group of present-day patriots echo the
sentiment first expressed here in 1814.

"Then conquer we must, when our cause it is just;
And this be our motto, 'In God is our trust'.
