of Governor Herbert R. O'Conor 581
people of the Country delay in assuming their full defense responsibilities, will
mean prolongation of the conflict, and will result in further casualities among
the fighting men and possibly the civilians of our Nation.
Definitely the hour is here when the people of America must range them-
selves upon one side or another. They must decide here and now whether they
are going to be drawbacks in this battle for the preservation of freedom, or
whether, with courage and determination, with all the abilities at their com-
mand, they are going to be All-American "fullbacks" and assume their part in
the truly American Army that is prepared to give and give and give of their
capacities, and all they possess, to the end that freedom may endure among
the nations of the earth.
The hour is here when there is need, dire need, for the people to arouse
themselves to a genuinely heroic mood, not for an instant, not for a month, but
for months without limit, if need be, until our war objectives are attained, and
the agressors routed the world over.
