366 State Papers and Addresses

sent the frontier of man's everlasting quest., Those millions who are hungry
and enslaved cannot come to us. But we can send to them the means of
remaining alive and the means of breaking the iron bondage. In Maryland
we will do our part.

This war will not last forever. And when it is won, as it will be, by
forces of the God-given right, then it will be in America, and by America
that frontiers of new hopes and new accomplishments must be found. Thus
Maryland, which is the best of all things that are American, celebrates her
birthday, and looks forward to many anniversaries during which Maryland-
bred customs and practices will still be of the finer things in the life of
free men.
