MORGAN STATE COLLEGE
When, after many years of discussion of the matter, your body made pro-
vision in 1939 for the purchase by the State of Morgan College, it sounded a
distinct note of progress in the field of higher education for our colored citizens.
Such action had been recommended by the very able Commission headed by
Mr. John E. Semmes, which had made a study of the proposal, and it is thor-
oughly to the credit of your able body that this long-discussed purchase finally
was consummated.
