Whereas, The General Assembly of Maryland has
heard with deep regret of the death of General John
S. Saunders, the late adjutant-general of Maryland
National Guard, and

Whereas, His distinguished services as a soldier in
the armies of the United States and of the Confederate
States of America,and in the Maryland National Guard
are a part of history and form a bright page in the
records of Maryland, and

Whereas, His services to the State of Maryland as
adjutant-general were of such an exceptional character
as to result in the development of the efficiency of the
Maryland National Guard to a higher point than it
had .ever before reached; therefore,

Be it resolved by the General Assembly of Mary-
land, That in the death of the late General John S.
Saunders, the State of Maryland recognizes that the
country has lost a true soldier, whose life was an in-
spiration to the citizens of the State in true courage
and devotion to dirty.

The State of Maryland has lost an official whose
service were of great benefit to the commonwealth and
those who have lost a loyal and sincere friend; and

Be it further resolved, That these resolutions be
spread upon the Journal, and a copy hereof, under the
Great Seal of Maryland, be transmitted to the nearest
relative of the late General Saunders.

REPORTS OF STANDING COMMITTEES.

Mr. Collins, from the Committee on Claims, reported
favorably the following order:

Ordered, That the Committee on Claims pay to W.
M. Holladay, ten dollars ($10.00) for printing the
names of the members of the House of Delegates, to
be placed in the desk of each member, by order of the
Superintendent of Public Buildings.

Which report was adopted by yeas and nays, as fol-
lows :

son, Atkinson, Gibbs, Atwell, Downs, Duvall, Low-
