House of Delegates for that purpose, appeared in the
Hall of the Hcuse of Delegates, for the purpose of con-
vening with the Members of the House of Delegates in
Joint Assembly for the election of a Senator from this
State for a term of six years, from March 4th, 1905, in
succession of the Hon. Lonis E; McComas, whose term
will then expire.
The Speaker of the House of Delegates assumed the
Chair as Chairman of the Joint Assembly.
The roll of Senators was then called by the Secre-
tary of the Senate, and it appeared that 24 Senators
were present.
The Chief Clerk of the House of Delegates then pro-
ceeded to call the roll of the House, of Delegates, and
95 Members answered to their names.
The Secretary of the Senate then read the Journal
of proceedings of the Senate of the preceding day, in
relation to the election of a Senator in Congress from
this State, for the term ending on the 4th day of
March, 1911.
After which,
The Chief Clerk of the House of Delegates read the
Journal of the proceedings of the House of Delegates on
the preceding day, in relation to a Senator in Congress
from this State, showing the fact that no person at the
vote so taken had received a majority of all the votes
cast by the General Assembly for Senator in Congress,
from this State, for the term of six years, ending the
4th day of March, 1911.
The Speaker of the House of Delegates, or Chair-
man of the Joint Assembly announced that there had
been no election of a United States Senator from this
State, on the previous day in either House.
The roll of the Senators was then called by the Sec-
retary of the Senate,

Mr. President named the Hon. Bernard Carter.
