Mr. Goslin made the following remarks:
Mr. Speaker:
I did not intend to speak to this question but whilst
listening to the gentleman from Baltimore city I have
fallen into a reminiscent frame of mind and recall a
scene enacted at a reception tendered to the famous
Georgian, Henry W. Grady, in Boston a short time
prior to his death. He said that whilst in Washington
and standing on Capitol Hill his heart beat fast as he
saw the tall towering buildings of his Country's govern-
ment. There were the buildings of the Treasury, of
the Courts and Judges, of the President and of Con-
gress, and as he thought of what gathered there he
felt the sun in all its course could not look down on a
grander sight than the domestic home of a Republic.
A Republic, sir, that has taught the world its best les-
sons of liberty and of patriotism. Whilst contem-
plating the magnificence of the scene another vision
nitted before him. It was a vision of a modest, quiet
country home. It was just a simple, unpretentious
house, set about with great big trees encircled with
field and meadow, rich with the promise of harvest.
The fragrance of the pink and the hollyhock in the
front yard mingled with the aroma of the orchards and
