of the institute on those young ladies who shall have
completed an entire course of study, and shall have
been presented, by the president of the institute to the
said board of council, as worthy of being admitted to
said highest honors, which honors shall be attested by
a diploma, sealed with the corporate seal of the institute,
and signed by the president and three or more of the
members of said board of council; and at all meetings
of the said board of council five members shall constitute
a quorum for the transaction of business.









Quorum.
     SEC. 3.  And be it enacted, That this act shall take
effect from and after its passage; the Legislature reserving
the right to alter, amend or repeal the same or any
part thereof.

                                   CHAPTER 70.

AN ACT to alter and amend an act entitled, an act to
     incorporate the New York Mining company, passed
     at December session, eighteen hundred and forty-four,
     chapter two hundred and twenty; and to alter and
     amend the supplement thereto, passed at December
     session, eighteen hundred and forty-six, chapter one
     hundred and twenty-three.

19, 1853.
     SECTION 1.  Be it enacted by the General Assembly
of Maryland,
That the act entitled, an act to incorporate
the New York Mining company, passed at December
session, eighteen hundred and forty-four, chapter
two hundred and twenty, be and the same is hereby
so amended, that the second section of said act shall
read as follows, to wit; That said corporation shall
have power to hold and possess all such property, real,
personal or mixed, as it may require for its legitimate
uses and purposes; Provided, that said corporation
shall at no time hold or possess in this State, more than
five thousand acres of land, exclusive of such lands as
may be used for the purposes of a road or roads, and
said corporation shall have the right to make by-laws
and all other such rules and regulations as may be
necessary for the proper management of its concerns;
Provided, the same are not repugnant to the laws of
this State, or of the United States.
