CHAPTER 340.
AN ACT amendatory of an act entitled, an act to provide
for the appointment of the Trustees of the Poor
for Somerset county, passed at December session,
eighteen hundred and forty, chapter two hundred and
thirty-five.

SECTION 1. Be
it enacted by the General Assembly
of Maryland, That it shall be the duty of the commissioners
of Somerset county to meet annually, at the
town of Princess Anne, in said county, on the first
Tuesday of April in each and every year after the passage
of this act; or if from any cause they should be
prevented from meeting on that day, then at their next
meeting thereafter, they shall appoint three proper persons,
to be styled the trustees of the poor for Somerset
county, one of whom shall be a resident of the old
Upper district, one of the old Middle district and one of
the old Lower district of said county, any two of whom
shall be a quorum to transact business; and the said
trustees of the poor, when appointed as aforesaid, shall
qualify by taking the oaths which were required by
law to be taken by the trustees of the poor of Somerset
county, previous to the passage of the act of December
session, eighteen hundred and thirty-eight, chapter one
hundred and nine; and when they shall have qualified
as aforesaid, they shall be invested with all the powers,
authority and jurisdiction, which were possessed by
the trustees of the poor of said county, immediately
before the passage of the said act, and shall continue
in office until their successors shall be appointed and
shall have qualified.

SEC. 2. And be it enacted,
That so much of the
first section of an act passed at December session, eighteen
hundred and forty, chapter two hundred and thirty-five,
as relates to the appointment of trustees of the
poor for Somerset county, be and the same is hereby
repealed.
