deem necessary to provide against the decay, and for
the repairing the said bridge or bridges; and shall on
every first Monday in July and January of every year,
publish the dividend to be made of the said clear profits
thereof among the stockholders; and also the time and
place when and where the same shall be paid, and shall
cause the same to be paid accordingly.
Damages.
     SEC. 11.  And be it enacted, That if any person or
persons owning the ferry across the Potomac river, at or
near the town of Williamsport, in Washington county,
Maryland, shall be deprived of any rights, or otherwise
injured by the provisions of this act, said person or
persons shall be entitled, upon application in proper
form and to the proper authority, to have the damages
sustained by him, her or them, in consequence of such
deprivation or injury, assessed by a jury in the usual
form for cases of damage made and provided; and said
Williamsport and Potomac Bridge Company shall be
answerable to said person or persons for said damages
so ascertained, in common property held by such company
under the provisions of this act.
     Banking forbid.
     SEC. 12.  And be it enacted, That nothing in this
act contained shall be construed as to authorise said
company to issue any note, token, scrip or device to be
used as a currency; and the Legislature reserves to itself
the right to alter, amend and repeal this charter at
pleasure.
     County commissioners
authorised to
subscribe.
     SEC. 13.  And be it enacted, That the county commissioners
of Washington county, Maryland, as well as
the county of Berkley, Virginia, or the proper authorities
thereof, be, and the same are hereby authorised,
each to subscribe to the capital stock of said bridge
company an amount not exceeding five thousand
dollars.
     Construction
of act.
     SEC. 14.  And be it enacted, That nothing in this
act shall be so construed as to authorise said company
to enter upon or use private property, or to interfere
with the rights of any person or persons in the ferry
aforesaid, until the damages ascertained by contract or
a jury summoned as usual in such cases, shall have
been first paid or tendered, and that said company shall
not be authorised to obstruct any public road in Washington
county, without the previous consent of the
county commissioners for said county.
Reservation.
     SEC. 15.  And be it enacted, That this act may at
any time, be altered, amended or repealed by the General
Assembly of Maryland.
