     Passed May
27, 1853.

     Separate
election district.
     SECTION 1.  Be it enacted by the General Assembly
of Maryland,
That all that part of Smith's Island
which is included within the limits of Somerset county,
be, and the same is constituted a separate election district,
to be called district number twelve, or Smith's
Island district.
     Subject to
such laws as
other districts.
     SEC. 2.  And be it enacted, That the said district
shall be subject to all such laws as the other election
districts of Somerset county, and the county commissioners
of Somerset county, shall have the same jurisdiction,
and shall be clothed with the same duties in
reference to said district, as in reference to other election
districts of Somerset county.
Place of holding
elections.
     SEC. 3.  And be it enacted, That the place for holding
elections in said district shall be at the house of
Severn Bradshaw.

                           CHAPTER 301.

AN ACT to incorporate the Frederick and Monocacy
                         Turnpike Company.
     Incorporated
to make turnpike
road.
     SECTION 1.  Be it enacted by the General Assembly
of Maryland,
That a company be incorporated to make
a turnpike road from the city of Frederick to the Monocacy
bridge, at Campbell's Ford in Frederick county.
     Subscription
books to be
opened.
     SEC. 2.  And be it enacted, That subscription books
shall be opened in Frederick city under the direction of
Joseph Schell, John Noonan, Edward Schley, Lawrence
J. Brengle and Joseph Routzahn, for a capital
stock of four thousand dollars, in shares of twenty dollars
each, who are hereby appointed commissioners for the
purpose aforesaid, who after at least twenty days notice
by publication in the several newspapers of Frederick
city, of the time and place of opening said subscription
books, at which time and place at least three of the
above named commissioners shall attend, and shall
