CHAPTER 284.
AN ACT for the relief of the sureties on the bonds of
James I. Chew, former collector of Prince George's
county.

Be it enacted by the General
Assembly of Maryland,
That the sureties on the official bonds of James I.
Chew, former collector of Prince George's county, be,
and they are hereby released from the payment of
interest on the State claims against said Chew; Provided,
however, that the amount due for principal on
said claims, at the time judgments were recovered by
the State on said bonds in Prince George's county court,
with the costs, shall be paid as follows: one half thereof
on or before the first day of October next, and the residue
on or before the first day of April next, upon the
adjustment of said claims by the comptroller; Provided,
however, that the said sureties shall not be released
from the payment of such interest as has been received
by the said collector, or his sureties, nor from such as
may be due by the tax payers on taxes now due by
them, nor from the interest accruing on the balance of
principal from the first day of May, eighteen hundred
and fifty-three, until paid.

CHAPTER 285.
AN ACT to incorporate the Catoctin Savings Institution.

SECTION 1. Be it enacted
by the General Assembly
of Maryland, That Jacob Baer, John Herring, George
Bowlus, Daniel C. Herring, Edward L. Herring, John
C. Lane, Lingan Boteler, S. G. Harbaugh, Mahlon
Rhoderick, John Young of P., Henry Coblentz and
Andrew Corrick, and all and every other person or persons,
who shall become members of the Catoctin
Savings Institution, located in Middletown, Frederick
county, in the manner hereinafter mentioned, shall be,
and are hereby created and made a body corporate by
the name and style of the Catoctin Savings Institution,
and by that name shall have succession, and be capable
in law to hold and dispose of property, to sue and
