not liable.
     SEC. 8.  And be it enacted, That if any person
called to testify on behalf of the State shall disclose
any fact tending to criminate himself in any manner
made punishable by this act, he shall thereafter be discharged
of and free from all liability to prosecution or
punishment for such matter of offence, but he shall in
nowise be exempt from giving testimony in behalf of
the State, on account of his former participation.
     Application
of fines.
     SEC 9.  And be it enacted, That all the fines imposed
by this act, the application whereof has not been hereinbefore
provided for, shall be applied, one-half to the
informer, who shall be a competent witness, and the
other half to the use of the public schools of the county
or city where the conviction shall be had.
To take effect.
     SEC. 10.  And be it enacted, That this act shall take
effect the first day of July, one thousand eight hundred
and fifty-three.

                           CHAPTER 266.

AN ACT to provide for the payment to the city of Baltimore
     the auction duties collected in said city, for the
     purposes of deepening and improving the channel of
     the Chesapeake Bay and Patapsco river, below Fort
     McHenry.
     Authority to
pay over.
     SECTION 1.  Be it enacted by the General Assembly
of Maryland,
That the proceeds of duty arising from
sales at public auctions in the city of Baltimore, be and
the same are hereby appropriated annually for the purpose
of deepening and improving a channel in the
Chesapeake Bay and Patapsco river, below Fort McHenry,
and that the Treasurer of this State be and he
is hereby authorised and required, on the warrant of
the Comptroller, to disburse and pay over to the said
mayor and city council of Baltimore, all the said proceeds
of auction duties that may have accrued from
and after the first day of January, eighteen hundred
and fifty-three, and that may hereafter accrue under
said act of eighteen hundred and twenty-seven, chapter
one hundred and eleven, to be applied under the direction
of the said mayor and city council to the purposes
aforesaid.
