                        JOS. KENT, ESQ. GOVERNOR.

    5.  And be it enacted, That the duties and rights of the members
of the said corporation, the powers and functions of the
officers thereof, mode of supplying vacancies in office, the times
of meeting of the said corporation, and of the board of managers,
the number which shall constitute a quorum at any such
meeting, the mode of electing members, the terms of their admission,
the causes which shall justify their suspension or expulsion
from the corporation, and all other concerns of the said
corporation, shall be regulated by the by-laws and ordinances
of the said corporation hereafter to be made, which the said
corporation is hereby authorised and empowered to make and
alter in the manner which may be therein mentioned; Provided,
That the said by-laws or ordinances shall not be repugnant to
or inconsistent with the constitution or laws of the United
States or of the state of Maryland.

                                            CHAPTER 5.

A supplement to the act, entitled, an additional supplement to the act,
                        entitled, an act to regulate public ferries.

Powers vested
in the levy
court of Dorchester
county.
    Sec. 1.  Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Maryland,
That the justices of the levy court of Dorchester county, are
hereby vested with all the powers and authority given to the
county court of Dorchester, by the act to which this is a supplement,
passed at November session, seventeen hundred and
ninety-one; and that after the passage of this act, the powers of
the said county court, with regard to making contracts for
keeping public ferries at the county expense, is hereby abrogated
and made void.

Bond.
    2.  And be it enacted, That the justices of the levy court be,
and they are hereby empowered and authorised at their discretion,
to sell the said ferries to the lowest bidder, or to make any
other contract relative to said ferries, which in their judgment
will best promote the public convenience; Provided always, that
the person or persons appointed to take charge of said ferries,
shall give bond with security to the state of Maryland, to be
approved by the levy court, for the due and faithful performance
of all such contracts; said bond to be recorded in the
county court of said county, and a copy thereof, under the seal
of said court, to be as good and competent evidence in any
court in this state, as the original would be if produced and
proved.

    3.  And be it enacted, That for the purpose of carrying the
provisions of this act into effect, the levy court of said county,
be, and they are hereby required and authorised to assemble on
or before the first Monday in April next.
