inhabitants of the neighborhood, would result from the excavation
of a canal, across the bow of Quantico creek in the said
county, and have prayed the enactment of a law for that purpose,
therefore,

Proviso.

    Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Maryland, That
Charles Jones, John I. Davis, George Malcomb, Cyrus Nelson,
Philip Covington, Francis D. Nelson, George Hopkins,
Hewry Gale, Robert Venables, I Travers, William Reddish,
Benjamin I. Dashiell, William S. Disharoon, Edward
R. Gosled, John S. Crockett, Caleb Kennerby, John W. Nelson,
Eblen Mitchell, A. H. Porsons, Ezekiel Smith, James Anderson,
Thomas Jones, Stephen Hopkins, Richard Niblet, Levin
W. Disharoon, James Goslee, E. C. Johnson, Robert Stuart, Robert
Twilly, George Reddish, John W. Leatherbury, George W.
Bounds, William Dunnoho, Levin Woolford, A. Anderson, John
cher, Charles Horsey, James Rider, George Twilly, Francis H.
Waters, James Russel, J. H. Durham, James Reacher, J. S. Hill,
Josiah Dashiell, Thomas Mitchell, William A. Dashiell, Ephriam
K. Harris, Isaac Neiols, William Harris, Tubman Nelson,
Samuel Jackson, John Bounds, Thomas Robertson, (of
George) James Bounds, Thomas Garretson, and William Evans,
or any three of them to be elected by them, and re-elected in like
manner annually thereafter, be and they are hereby authorised
to cut, excavate and complete a canal, of such width and depth,
as in their opinion, may be deemed sufficient for the navigation
of boats across the bow of Quantico creek, into Flatty creek, of
Nanticoke river in the said county, and that the said three persons,
so to be elected as aforesaid, shall be, and they hereby are
made a body politic and corporate in law; with power to make
and ordain all necessary regulations and ordinances for raising
means from the several persons herein named, or from such
other person or persons, as may be disposed to contribute, for
the completion, government, maintenance and prosecution of
the said canal; Provided, That nothing in this act shall be construed
to authorise the excavation of the said canal, without the
previous consent and approbation of all proprietors of the
marshes through which the same may pass.

                                            CHAPTER 71.

A supplement to an act, entitled, An act relating to the Public Roads in
    Caroline county, passed at December session, eighteen hundred and
    twenty two, chapter fifty eight.

Preamble.     WHEREAS, supervisors of the public roads in Caroline county,
are often ignorant of the laws under which they act for want
of having them to refer to, and consequently commit many
errors and deviations from the express provisions of law; therefore,
