shall proceed to enforce the collection thereof as

though the sections hereinbefore mentioned had

not been repealed and re-enacted, and the present

sheriff of said county shall have full power to en-

force collection of all taxes which may be placed

in his hands for collection before the first day of

May, eighteen hundred and seventy-eight, in the

same manner as though the sections repealed and

re-enacted by this act had not been repealed and

re-enacted ; provided, no levy hereafter to be made

by the late or present sheriff for the enforcement
