Whereupon, it appeared that a majority of all the
members elected to said House of Delegates being
present and voting, the Hon. Arthur P. Gorman had
received 80 votes, and the Hon. Lloyd Lowndes had
received 6 votes, and tha-t the Hon. Arthur P. Gor-
man had received a majority of the whole number of
votes cast in the said House of Delegates, the same
being a majority of all the votes of the said House of
Delegates, for Senator in Congress from this State in
succession to Hon. Arthur P. Gorman, for the term of
six years from March 4th, 1893, and the said fact was
accordingly so entered on the Journal of the House of
Delegates by the Clerk thereof.
Immediately thereafter, the House of Delegates, in
accordance with the provisions of chapter 1, title 2,
of the Revised Statutes of the United States, pro-
ceeded openly, by the viva voce vote of each member
present, a majority of all tiie Members elected to said
House of Delegates being present and voting, to name
one person as a Senator in Congress from this State to
fill the vacancy caused by the death of the Hon.
Ephraim K. Wilson, a Senator in the Congress of the
United States from this State, who died during the
recess of the Legislature of this State, for the term
ending on the 4th day of March, 1897.
The roll being called, it appeared by a viva voce
vote of each member present, that
