shall choose others in their stead from the stockholders of


said company, who shall continue in office until the next


general election of directors.


SEC. 7. And be it enacted, That the said corporation is

hereby authorized and empowered to cut, dig and make a

ered

canal or inlet, of any width or depth it may deem necessary


or proper, at some point on the eastern border of Worcester


County, either north or south of Ocean City, and not less than
two miles distant therefrom ; thereon to the Isle of Wight, or


Assawoman or Synepuxent Bay as the case may be. in order to


secure in the waters or bays an ebb and flow of salt water


for the breeding and cultivation of oysters in any manner


deemed proper and not conflicting with the laws of this


State ; and whereas the Isle of Wight, Assawoman and the


Synepuxent Bays aforesaid have from the closing of inlets


formerly existing, been for many years past unhealthy fresh


water and unfit for the natural growth and the cultivation


of oysters; and whereas, the lands bordering on said bays


and tributaries have greatly depreciated in value from that


cause ; therefore,


SEC. 8. Be it enacted, That in consideration of the cut-


ting and making of the inlet aforesaid and maintaining the


same, and the great advantages tendered to the adjacent


land thereby, and the increased value to the State of Mary-


land, and to Worcester County, and to citizens thereof, by


salting the Isle of Wight, Assawoman, and the Synepuxent

Grant

Bays by the regular ebb and flow of the tide through the

boundaries

inlet aforesaid the State oi Maryland does hereby graut and

thereof

convey unto the said Isle of Wight Inlet and Oyster Plant-


ing Company one-half of the beds of said Isle of Wight,


Assawoman, and Synepuxent Bays or by whatever other


name they may be known, bounded and described as follows,


to wit: For a center line commencing at a center point in a


line drawn from south point on Syuepuxent Bay running


east to the Eastern shore of said bay which line to the extent


that it adjoins the property hereby intended to be conveyed,


shall be its southern boundary, thence running northwardly


through the middle of the Synepuxent, Isle of Wight and


Assawoman Bay to its intersection with the boundary line


between the State of Maryland and the State of Delaware,


which said line shall be the northern boundary of.the property


hereby intended to be conveyed. For the eastern boundary


commencing ab a point on said southern line distant one-


fourth of the width of the bay from said center line, thence


northwardly following the general trend of the shore and at


every point distant from the aforesaid center line one-fourth


of the width of the water way until it intersects the said
