board, whose duty it shall be to receive and receipt for all moneys
|
|
|
|
belonging to said corporation, or to which it shall in anywise be
|
|
|
|
entitled, to collect and receive all taxes, general or special, levied
|
|
|
|
upon the assessed value of all property within said town, and to
|
|
|
|
receive all fines and penalties imposed by said board, and to dis-
|
|
|
|
charge such other duties pertaining to his office, as are or may be
|
|
|
|
imposed by law or any ordinance of said board; provided, that
|
|
|
|
before entering upon the duties of his office, the said treasurer
|
|
|
|
shall annually give bond to the said president and commissioners
|
|
|

with sureties to be approved by said board, in double the amount
|
|
|
|
of money which said board shall estimate will come into the
|
|
|
|
hands of said treasurer during the term for which he shall be
|
|
|
|
appointed, conditioned for the faithful discharge of his duties as
|
|
|
|
said treasurer; and the said board shall have authority, at any
|
|
|
|
time, to require the said treasurer to give additional bond or
|
|
|
|
security conditioned as aforesaid, when the amotint of money in
|
|
|
|
his hands, or to come into his hands during his term of office,
|
|
|
|
shall be greater than was estimated as aforesaid by said board ;
|
|
|
|
said treasurer shall continue in office until his successor is ap-
|
|
|
|
pointed and qualified, but shall be subject to removal by said
|
|
|
|
board for neglect of duty, disobedience to its orders, or other
|
|
|
|
malfeasance in office; as the entire compensation for all the ser-
|
|
|
|
vices which he shall render under and by virtue of the powers
|
|
|
|
and duties conferred and laid on him by this act, or the ordi-
|
|
|
|
nances of said board, he shall receive a sum not exceeding two
|
|
|
|
hundred and fifty dollars annually, or a pro rata rate for a shorter
|
|
|
|
period, to be paid as said board shall direct; said board shall
|
|
|
|
have power at any time, to fill a vacancy in said office of treasurer
|
|
|
|
caused by death, resignation, removal or otherwise; and the pre-
|
|
|
|
ceding portion of this section shall apply to a treasurer so ap-
|
|
|
|
pointed, except as to the term of his office, which shall be only to
|
|
|
|
fill the unexpired term of his predecessor.

|
|
134 B. Said treasurer may and shall enforce the payment cf
|
|
|
|
town taxes, general and special, with the same power and with
|
|
|

the like effect as collectors of State and county taxes may enforce
|
|
|
taxes
|
payment of State and county taxes under the Public General
|
|
|
|
Laws of the State of Maryland.
|
|
|
|
134 C. All moneys belonging to the said corporation which
|
|
|
|
shall come into the hands of the said treasurer during each week,
|
|
|
|
shall be deposited by him by the close of said week in one of the
|
|
|

commissioners, and the moneys thus deposited shall be drawn out.

|
|
only by check signed by the said treasurer and countersigned by
|
|
|
|
the said president; and in case of the absence or disability of
|
|
|
|
either or both, or a vacancy in either or both of said positions,
|
|
|
|
then by check signed and countersigned by such person or persons
|
|
|
|
as said board may designate; all documents, books and papers ,
|
|
|
|
belonging to the office of treasurer are hereby declared to be the
