board, whose duty it shall be to receive and receipt for all moneys


belonging to said corporation, or to which it shall in anywise be


entitled, to collect and receive all taxes, general or special, levied


upon the assessed value of all property within said town, and to


receive all fines and penalties imposed by said board, and to dis-


charge such other duties pertaining to his office, as are or may be


imposed by law or any ordinance of said board; provided, that


before entering upon the duties of his office, the said treasurer


shall annually give bond to the said president and commissioners

with sureties to be approved by said board, in double the amount


of money which said board shall estimate will come into the


hands of said treasurer during the term for which he shall be


appointed, conditioned for the faithful discharge of his duties as


said treasurer; and the said board shall have authority, at any


time, to require the said treasurer to give additional bond or


security conditioned as aforesaid, when the amotint of money in


his hands, or to come into his hands during his term of office,


shall be greater than was estimated as aforesaid by said board ;


said treasurer shall continue in office until his successor is ap-


pointed and qualified, but shall be subject to removal by said


board for neglect of duty, disobedience to its orders, or other


malfeasance in office; as the entire compensation for all the ser-


vices which he shall render under and by virtue of the powers


and duties conferred and laid on him by this act, or the ordi-


nances of said board, he shall receive a sum not exceeding two


hundred and fifty dollars annually, or a pro rata rate for a shorter


period, to be paid as said board shall direct; said board shall


have power at any time, to fill a vacancy in said office of treasurer


caused by death, resignation, removal or otherwise; and the pre-


ceding portion of this section shall apply to a treasurer so ap-


pointed, except as to the term of his office, which shall be only to


fill the unexpired term of his predecessor.


134 B. Said treasurer may and shall enforce the payment cf
