CHAPTER 609.


AN ACT to incorporate the Castleman timber and pulp company


of Garrett county.


SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Maryland,


That George L. Wellington, W. E. Getty, Daniel Chisholm,


Charles Brown, Peter S. Hay and such other persons as may


become associated with them in manner as hereinafter provided,

be and are hereby made and constituted a body politic and cor-


porate by the name of Castleman timber and pulp company, and


by that name shall have succession and be able to sue and be sued,


plead and be impleaded in any court whatever, and may have and


use a common seal, and the same alter and renew at pleasure.


SEC. 2. And be it enacted, That the said corporate body shall


have all the powers, faculties, franchises and rights necessary,


proper and convenient to cut and make logs or billets of wood


from standing or fallen timber and transport them by land, rail-


road or water to market or such places as the interest of said cor-

means of mills and machinery lumber in all forms, and dressed


or prepared lumber or material for building, also pulp out of


wood for the use of making paper, and also to buy, sell and dis-


pose of timber standing or fallen, or logs and billets of wood.


SEC. 3. And be it enacted, That to enable said corporation to


conduct its business and operations it is empowered to build, con-


struct and maintain in said Garrett county, such common road


or roads, tram-roads and iron railroads with all the necessary


engines and appurtenances as may be needed in said business, and

authorized and empowered to erect, construct and maintain in


said Garrett county upon the Castleman river, sometimes called


"Little Crossings," and its north and south forks, boom or booms,


as may be necessary for stopping or securing logs, timber and


rafts to be floated on any of the streams or waters mentioned, and


for the cleaning out of their beds, and the removing from their


banks for a reasonable margin any and all impediments or ob-


structions, and for the erection thereon splash dams in such num-


ber and manner and way as may make them convenient and safe


for the floating or moving of logs, timber, rafts, billets to market


or such other place or places as may be necessary; provided, such
improvements shall not interfere with any bridge, mill-dam or


any existing public improvement, without the consent of the


owners or controllers thereof.


SEC. 4. And be it enacted, That the said corporation shall have
