SEC. 23. And be it enacted, That the legislature shall have power


at and time hereafter to repeal, alter or modify this act; and that

CHAPTER 543.


AN ACT to provide f or the speedy and prompt col lection of taxes


in Worcester county.


SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Maryland,


That the county of Worcester be and the same is hereby divided


into three collection districts for the collection of taxes, as fol-


lows : the first to be composed of Saint Martin's, (No. 5,) East

To divide.

Berlin, (No. 3) and West Berlin, (No. 9,) election districts; the


second of Newark, (No. 4,) Coulbourn's, (No. 6,) Snow Hill,


(No. 2) and Stockton, (No. 8,) election districts, and the third of


Newtown, (No. 1,) and Atkinson, (No. 7,) election districts.


SEC. 2. And be it enacted, That the county commissioners of


said county shall, on the second Tuesday in April, or as soon


thereafter as may be practicable in each year, beginning on the


second Tuesday of April, in the year eighteen hundred and ninety-


two, appoint a collector of State and county taxes for each of said


collection districts, who shall execute to the State of Maryland,


on or before the second Tuesday of May then next ensuing, a


good and sufficient bond to be approved by the county commis-


sioners, in a penalty double the amount of State taxes that will


be entrusted to him for collection, and conditioned for the true

and faithful performance of his duty as collector of State taxes,


and in like manner, on or before the second Tuesday of June in


the same year, another bond to the State of Maryland to be also


approved by the county commissioners in a penalty double the


amount of the county taxes that will be entrusted to him for col-


lection conditioned for the true and faithful performance of his


duty as collector of county taxes, and each bond shall have at


least three good securities, and each of said collector's bonds shall


be filed and recorded in the office of the clerk of the circuit court


for said county, a certified copy of which shall be sufficient evi-


dence in any suit in said bond.


SEC. 3. And be it enacted, That the duties of said collectors


shall be to collect and pay over to the proper officers, all State

and county taxes levied in their respective collection districts, and


to report to the county commissioners all untaxed property in said


districts liable to taxation.
