214. The sheriff of Anne Arundel county shall be allowed for


keeping and boarding prisoners committed to the jail of said


county, such sum as the county commissioners shall determine,


not to exceed the sum of twenty-five cents a day for each such


prisoner; and the county commissioners shall have quarterly


accountings with the sheriff for the same, upon presentation of


his accounts for the same with proper vouchers, and shall levy


for the same annually, and said accounts shall state the exact


number of days and fractions of days each such prisoner was con-


fined within said jail, and shall be verified by the affidavit of said


sheriff; he shall also be entitled to receive from the county com-


missioners to be levied annually by them, for carrying and con-


veying persons under sentence to the State penitentiary or the


house of correction, or to or from jails of any of the counties of


the State, (except Anne Arundel county,) and the jail or station-

houses of the city of Baltimore, or to or from any other place of

fees

confinement under the sentence or final order of any authorized


judicial authority, the sum of ten dollars for one person so car-


ried or conveyed, and for each additional person so carried or con-


veyed at the same time five dollars and no more, unless the


county commissioners shall be satisfied that extraordinary care


and caution had to be exercised, accompanied with unusual danger,


trouble or expense, and said compensation so specified, shall be


held fo include all costs and expenses incident to the carrying


and conveying of such person or persons; provided, that so far as


possible the said sheriff shall convey, and shall by the commis-


sioners be held and required to convey at one and the same time


to each such institution all persons sentenced to be confined in


each such respecti re institution at any one term of court; no other


fees, turnkey charges, perquisites or allowances whatsoever shall
be granted, allowed or levied for said sheriff except such as are


specified by the Code of Public General Laws relating to sheriffs,


whether the same have been heretofore allowed by usage or not.


SEC. 2. And be it enacted, That this act shall not be held to


apply to the present incumbent of the office of sheriff of said
