No. 5.
Whereas it has been represented to this General
Assembly that one of the most dangerous shoals
in the Chesapeake bay exists at Bloody Point,
the south-west extremity of Kent Island, near the
mouth of Eastern bay; and whereas the approach
of said shoals is not indicated by soundings, in
consequence whereof frequent wrecks have oc-
curred thereon; and whereas efforts for years past
have been made by the Pilot's Association and
others interested in the navigation of the Chesa-
peake bay to obtain from the United States Gov-
ernment the establishment of a light-house and
Preamble.
fog bell at Bloody Point, so that this dangerous
shoal may be avoided at night and during foggy
weather; and whereas the Eastern bay presents
one of the finest harbors on the eastward side of
the Chesapeake bay for the refuge of vessels in
stormy weather, being particularly resorted to by
the oyster fleet and all vessels passing in and out
of the Eastern bay; and whereas the necessity of
their establishment has become more apparent
with the continually increasing traffic in these
waters; therefore,
Be it resolved by the General Assembly of Mary-
land, That our Senators be instructed, and our Rep-
resentatives in the Congress of the United States,
