SEC. 13. And be it further enacted. That the said
|

|
|
company shall have power and authority to purchase,
|
|
|
|
or hire, or build and construct, steamships of such
|
|
|
|
capacity as may be desirable for the purpose of tow-
|
|
|
|
ing vessels through the said ship canal, or for carry-
|
|
|
|
ing freight or passengers from any port to any port,
|
|
|
|
through the said ship canal, or for carrying and con-
veying passengers or freight that may be trans-shipped
at either of the termini of said ship canal, upon such

vessels, or for carrying and conveying passengers

and freight for trans-shipments through the said canal
|
|
|
|
upon other vessel or vessels ; and the said company
|
|
|
|
shall have power to charge for freight, towage and

transportation on such vessels, such sum or sums of
|
|
|
|
money as may be from time to time prescribed by
|
|
|
|
the directors of said company.

|
|
|
SEC. 14. And be it enacted, That the Mayor and
|
|
|
|
City Council of the city of Baltimore be and they
|
|
|
|
are hereby authorized, on behalf of said corporation,
|
|
|
|
to subscribe for so many shares of the capital stock
|

of the Choptank and Delaware Ship Canal Company
as they may deem expedient and proper ; and their
|
to subscribe.

|
|
subscription to said stock shall constitute the said
|
|
|
|
corporation of the city of Baltimore a stockholder
|
|
|

in the said canal company, upon the same and equal
|
|
|
|
terms as other stockholders.
|
|
|
|
SEC. 15. And be it enacted, That the consent of
|
|
|
|
the State of Maryland is hereby given to the con-
|
|
|
|
struction or purchase of the Choptank and Delaware
|
|
|
|
Ship Canal, by the Government of the United States,
|
|
|
|
and in case of construction or purchase of the said
|

canal by the Government of the United States, that
|
State given.
|
|
|
the jurisdiction and control over the said canal is
|
|
|
|
hereby ceded to the United States, reserving, never-
|
|
|
|
theless, to the State of Maryland, concurrent juris-
|
|
|
|
diction so far as may be necessary to serving therein
|
|
|
|
of process, by any court or officers of the State.
|
|
|
|
SEC. 16. And be it enacted, That this act shall
