	CHAPTER 279.
	AN ACT enlarging the powers of the Baltimore
	and Ohio Railroad Company, and authorizing it
	to subscribe to or purchase the stock of other rail-
	road companies, and to aid such companies, and to
	purchase or lease, or operate other railroads and
	works facilitating commerce.
	SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the General Assem-
	bly of Maryland, That the Baltimore and Ohio Rail-
	road Company be and the same is hereby authorized	Endorse
	and empowered at any time to subscribe to or pur-	bonds.
	chase the common or preferred stock or bonds of any
	other railroad company, whether the same be incor-
	porated by and under the laws of the State of Mary-
	land, or of any other State, and to endorse or guar-
	antee the bonds or other evidences of indebtedness
	of such other railroad company, and to guarantee the
	leases or other contracts of such other company, or
	to aid such other company in any manner in the
	construction, improvement and operation of its rail-
	road or railroads, as said companies may deem to be
	for their common benefit; and such endorsement,
	guarantee or aid, may be made and given by said
	Baltimore and Ohio Railroad Company, either by
	itself or jointly in connection with any other railroad
	company or companies of this or any other State ;
