	said company may erect one or more toll-gates upon said road, but not within two miles of each other,	May erect toll-gates
	and may charge tolls for traveling on said road; pro-
	vided said tolls shall not exceed the following rates,
	to wit : One and one-half cents per mile for every
	vehicle drawn by one animal ; for any vehicle drawn	Rales of toll.

	one-half cents per mile for every additional animal;
	for every score of sheep, or swine, or neat cattle, six
	cents per mile; for every horse and rider, and every

	SEC. 8. And be it enacted. That the directors of
	said company shall have power to make and adopt such by-laws, rules and regulations for the direc-	Power to make rules, &c.
	tion and management of said company as may, in
	their judgment, be necessary for the purpose of their
	incorporation, not inconsistant with the provisions
	of this charter, and the laws and constitution of
	this State ; and the president and directors of said
	company, or a majority of them, shall constitute, ap-
	point and employ such officers, agents and servants
	tor the construction, preservation and repair of said
	road, and for the receipt and collection of tolls, and
	the transaction of all other business of said com-
	pany, as in their judgment may be necessary.
	SEC. 9. And be it enacted, That if any person
	or persons whatever, riding or driving anything whatever, or leading the same, shall therewith pass	Turning off road.

	road with the intention of avoiding the payment of
	toll for passing through such gate, all and every
	person so offending shall, for every such offence,
	forfeit and pay to the said president and directors a
	sum not exceeding twenty dollars, to be sued for
	and recovered, with costs of suit, before any justice
	of the peace, in like manner as debts of similar	Penalty.

	toll gatherer shall demand and knowingly receive
	any greater toll than he is authorized to receive by
	this act, he shall forfeit ten dollars for every such
	offence for the use of the county.
