Bureau of Immigration.
1896, ch. 295.
1. There is hereby established within and for the State of
Maryland, a bureau of immigration to encourage immigration to
this State.

2. There shall be appointed by the Governor, by and with the
advice and consent of the Senate, once in every two years, a
board of immigration commissioners, composed of three mem-
bers, one of whom shall be president of the board, and one of
whom shall be State superintendent of immigration, and shall
be so designated in his appointment; the said commissioners-
shall be appointed for a term of two years, and until their succes-
sors are duly qualified; the State superintendent shall receive a
salary of two thousand dollars per annum, payable quarterly,
upon the warrant of the comptroller, and the other two commis-
sioners shall serve without compensation, except for their actual
expenses in attending the meetings of the board.
