870 CECIL COUNTY. [ART. 8.

1868, ch. 151.

300. The bailiff shall give bond, to be approved by the county
commissioners, as other constables, for the faithful performance
of his duty as constable, and also bond to the board of commis-
sioners for the faithful performance of his duty as bailiff, and as
collector of the taxes, and for the faithful performance of such
duties as shall be imposed on him by the ordinances of said board
of commissioners.

301. The bailiff may enforce the payment of corporation taxes
in the same manner and with like effect as collectors of State
and county taxes may enforce the payment of the same.

302. The president of the commissioners and all other officers
of the town, before they enter upon the duties of their respec-
tive offices, shall severally take the following oath: "I do
solemnly swear that I will faithfully execute the office of ———
to the best of my knowledge and ability, without favor, affection
or partiality."

303. The president of the commissioners, in virtue of his
office, shall have and exercise within the limits of the town, all
the jurisdiction and power of a justice'of the peace, except as
to recovery of small debts; he may call on any officer of the vil-
lage entrusted with the receipt and expenditure of public money,
for a statement of his accounts as often as he shall see proper;
the shall see that the ordinances are faithfully executed, and report
to the board of commissioners, at their stated meetings, the gen-
eral state of the village, and may call special meetings of the
commissioners whenever he may see proper.

304. The county commissioners may, at their discretion, levy
annually upon the assessable property of the county, twenty-five
dollars, and pay the same over to the commissioners, to aid in
keeping the streets of said village, as part of the public roads of
the county, in good repair.
