78 ALLEGANY COUNTY. [ART. 1.

may be requisite for such evening schools; and students therein
shall be males of not less than fourteen years of age.

1884, ch. 39.

220. The school commissioners of said county shall appoint
one professor skilled in the knowledge of mining and mechanics,
whose duty it shall be to give lectures in such evening schools
throughout the county.

221. No such school shall be opened without written appli-
cation to the trustees of said school, signed by thirty persons of
the required age admissible thereto.

222. Said. professor, or persons appointed by the school com-
missioners shall make all necessary arrangements at the different
schools for lectures on mining and mechanics, on the different
modes of ventilating mines and their results, and on civil engi-
neering and map drawing.

223. Said professor and teachers shall be paid out of the pub-
lic school fund of Allegany county such compensation for their
services as the school commissioners shall fix.

224. Such schools shall be opened on the first Monday in No-
vember, and close on the last Friday of April.

225. There shall not be expended in any one year more than
the sum of three thousand dollars for the maintenance of such
schools; and if the county school commissioners shall not have a
sufficient surplus, after paying all necessary expenses of the ordi-
nary public schools of the said county, to meet such expenditures,
the county commissioners shall levy the same as other county
taxes are levied.
