174. The acting president of such board of commissioners
shall from time to time cause the clerk to give public notice in
writing at three conspicuous places in said town, at least ten days
preceding the next ensuing election; and the president of said
commissioners shall be the judge of said election and shall open
the polls at two o'clock in the afternoon and close the same at six
o'clock the same evening; and shall return his certificate of the
persons elected to the said commissioners on the day first
appointed for their meeting, and the same shall be filed and
recorded among their proceedings.

175. Every commissioner before he shall proceed to execute
his office, shall take an oath or affirmation, before some justice of
the peace of the county, that he will diligently and faithfully,
according to the best of his skill and judgment, perform the duty
of commissioner of said town, without partiality or prejudice; and
a certificate of such qualification shall be made and returned by
such justice of the peace to the said commissioners, to be filed and
recorded among their proceedings.

176. If any of the commissioners so elected shall die, or resign,
or remove from said town, or be otherwise disqualified, during
the year for which he may be elected, the said board of commis-
sioners, or a majority of them, are empowered to fill such
vacancies.

177. The metes and bounds of the said town of Hillsborough
shall extend from east side of Tuckahoe creek bridge, until it in-
tersects the division line between F. Tate Barton and Dr. Thomas
Hackett; thence up the said easterly direction until it intersects
the division line between Dr. Thomas Hackett and William
Wilkinson; thence up said line in an easterly direction until it
strikes the public road leading from Hillsborongh to Greens-
borough, at the colored M. E. church; thence along west side of
said road, southerly course, until it intersects with the public road
leading from Hillsborough to Denton; thence along said road
