county commissioners.

124. It shall be the duty of the road supervisors to remove
from the public roads in their respective districts or sections in
aaid county, all and any gate or gates which they shall find thereon
in violation of the provisions of the two preceding sections; any
road supervisor or road contractor failing to remove any such
gate or gates, shall, on conviction thereof before a justice of the
peace, be adjudged guilty of a misdemeanor, and be fined not
more than twenty nor less than ten dollars, one-half thereof to be
paid to the informer and the other half to be paid to the county
commissioners.

125. The sheriff of Calvert county shall receive forty cents a
day for keeping and boarding each prisoner in jail, and shall also
receive a sum of money not to exceed forty dollars for conveying
to the State penitentiary, or to any other place of punishment
situated beyond the limits of said county, every person sentenced
thereto by the circuit court for Calvert county.
STATE'S ATTORNEY.

126. Within thirty days before the levy term of each year of
the county commissioners of Calvert county, the State's attorney
for Calvert county shall make out and present to the judges of
the circuit court for Calvert county, or any one of them, a full and
accurate statement of all charges and claims for work performed
as State's attorney for the year ending at the date of making of
the said statement; and the said judges or judge shall examine said
statement and fix and determine what shall be a proper and
adequate compensation to the said State's attorney for the work
therein set forth, and shall certify the said amount to the county
commissioners of Calvert county within ten days of said levy
terms, to be levied at the next ensuing levy for the use of the
said State's attorney; provided, however, that such recommenda-
