county such sums of money as said board of road commissioners
shall notify them in writing will be required for keeping in repair
the public roads of the county for one year, not, however, to
exceed the sum of four thousand dollars; and it shall be the duty
of the said board of road commissioners to give the said notice
to the eaid county commissioners before the meeting of said
county commissioners to make the annual levy; and the said road
commissioners and the said county commissioners shall keep an
account, showing the number, date and the amount of each order
drawn by the board of road commissioners on collector of taxes
as aforesaid; and in the annual statement of the expenses of the
county published each year by the said county commissioners in
pursuance of section 11 of article 25 of the code of public general
laws, title " County Commissioners," it shall be made to clearly
appear what sums of money have been expended in the public
roads of said county; and no order drawn on the collector of taxes
by the said board of road commissioners shall bear interest, unless
the same shall be presented for payment to the county commission-
ers while the said county commissioners are in session for the pur-
pose of receiving and passing accounts against the county, next
succeeding the issual of said order.

118. It shall be the duty of each of the road commissioners to
inquire into the condition of the public roads in his district, to re-
ceive and hear complaints in reference thereto, and once in every
month, whilst the work on the said roads is being done, to visit
and personally inspect the work done by the said supervisors; and
if from the fifteenth day of October to the first day of April
thereafter, it shall become necessary to make repairs on said roads,
the road commissioners shall have power to cause such repairs to
be made as in their judgment may be required; and the county
commissioners shall levy such amount as may be sufficient to
pay for such repairs, at the annual meeting to make the levy for
county taxes, upon the order of said road commissioners.

119. Each of the said road commissioners shall receive from
the county commissioners the sum of one dollar and a half for
each day he is engaged in performing the duties of his office.
