the condition of the treasury shall require it, it shall be the
duty of the treasurer, and he is authorized to cause the bonds of
the State of Maryland, not exceeding the sum of $125,000 in any
one year, in denominations of not less than $500 each, and bear-
ing coupons for interest, payable semi-annually, at six per cent,
interest, to be issued in the usual form, and proposals for the sale
of said bonds made by advertisement in such papers as he may
select.

87. For the payment of the interest, and the redemption of
the principal of the said bonds when due, there shall be levied
upon the assessable property of the State a tax of one cent on the
hundred dollars, to be collected as other taxes are now collected;
and the proceeds of the said tax shall be paid to the treasurer of
the State, and by him set apart for the payment of the interest
and for the redemption of the principal of said bonds; and he
shall invest the surplus of receipts from the said tax, after paying
interest, as a sinking fund for the redemption of said bonds.

88. The said bonds shall be redeemable in fifteen years from
the date of the issue of the said bonds.
JUSTICES OF THE PEACE AND CONSTABLES.

89. There shall be the following number of justices of the
peace and constables for Calvert county, to wit: for election dis-
trict number one, five justices of the peace and two constables;
for election district number two, four justices of the peace and
three constables; and for election district number three, four jus-
tices of the peace and three constables.

90. The justices of the peace in and for Calvert, Dor-
chester, Kent, Caroline, Carroll, Queen Anne's, Anne Arundel,
Prince George's, Harford, Charles and Worcester counties, shall
have jurisdiction over and may take cognizance of all actions of
assault and battery in which the damages claimed do not exceed
the sum of one hundred dollars; and also criminal jurisdiction
