490. All beef, cattle and hogs, and other live stock brought
for sale or slaughter, within the corporate limits of the city of
Baltimore, or within five miles of said limits, at the option of
the owner thereof or his agent, may be weighed by said weigh-
master.

491. The said weighmaster shall, upon any day in the week,
except Sunday, weigh all live stock that may be offered for
weighing at the live stock scales for that purpose, and shall give
a certificate under his hand, setting forth the actual gross weight
of any number of cattle or hogs, or any other live stock so
weighed by him, to their owner or his agent, making such allow-
ances in the nature of tare, on account of any dirt, mud, filth or
any other matter adhering to the same, as he may think just or
proper.

492. He shall charge and collect, for the use of the State, or
after the lease of the cattle scales, for the use of the lessees of the
State cattle yards and scales, for weighing any live stock, except
sheep, two cents for every hundred weight, and one cent per head
for every sheep; and for every second and subsequent weighing
of cattle and hogs, two cents for every thousand weight; and for
every second weighing of sheep, one cent for every thousand
weight; and for all other live stock, the sum of six cents for every
thousand weight; provided, however, that the said weighmaster
shall neither charge nor collect anything for any live stock,
whether beef, cattle, hogs and sheep, not weighed at said cattle
yards; and provided further, that the owner or his agent, of any
such cattle, hogs or sheep, or other live stock, may, at their option,
weigh the same by any other person than such weighmaster, or
the lessees of such cattle yards and scales.

493. He shall keep a full record of all weights of live stock
as ascertained and determined by him, and of the persons or cor-
porations for whom the same were ascertained and determined, and
for all moneys by him received as weighmaster; which said
moneys shall be accounted for and paid over by him, as received
