claimant of such property; and in case of a dispute as to the
amount of such expenses, said dispute shall be determined by a
justice of the peace of said city.

322. The said fire inspector is authorized and empowered to
appoint one or more persons to act as deputies during his absence,
or to assist him in the discharge of his duties; and the said
deputies shall have all the authority invested in the fire inspector
by this sub-title of this article and the ordinances of the mayor
and city council of Baltimore; and the said deputies shall act
during the pleasure of the fire inspector; and each deputy shall
wear, while in discharge of his duty, conspicuously displayed on
his person, such badge or device as the fire inspector shall desig-
nate.

323. This sub-title of this article shall not be so construed or
understood as to authorize the fire inspector to interfere with or
disregard the authority now vested in the board of fire commis-
sioners of the city of Baltimore, during the time of fire, by the
ordinances of the city.
FIRE CRACKERS, GUNPOWDER, NAVAL STORES AND ILLUMIN-

324. The mayor and city council of Baltimore may pass all
such ordinances as they may deem necessary and proper to sup-
press the evil and pernicious practice of firing and discharging
crackers within the limits of said city, either by prohibiting the
sale of crackers or otherwise.

325. The mayor and city council may erect and provide
magazines for the storage of gunpowder brought to the city, and
compel the storage of the same therein, and regulate the price of
such storage.

326. They may prevent the storage of naval stores or other
combustible matter in such quantities or places within the city as
may be deemed dangerous.
