moved from office by the county commissioners for incompetency
or neglect of duty, being first given an opportunity to defend
himself against any charges; and the office may be filled by them
at any time in the event of a vacancy.

207. "Whenever any bridge may need, in the opinion of the
county commissioners, any repairs, they shall have power to
order that such repairs shall be made under the direction of the
road commissioners of the district.

208. At least three-fourths of all monies to be expended for
repairs of roads in each district shall be expended between the
fifteenth day of April and the first day of October in each year;
the road commissioners of each district shall cause to be put up
and maintained guide-posts and finger-boards at cross roads or
where roads diverge from each other, designating the nearest
prominent point to which such road leads, and the distance thereto.
Any person removing or defacing such finger-boards shall be
liable to a fine of five dollars, to be imposed by a justice of the
peace in the name of the county commissioners.

209. The road commissioners shall be allowed a.per diem of
two dollars for each day they may be employed as examiners
or superintendents of new roads to he altered, or of bridges to be
built or repaired. For their duties as road commissioners they
shall be entitled to no pay except for actual expenses, which shall
not in any one year exceed fifty dollars for a member of the
board.

210. In the event of the failure of the county commissioners
to secure the services of competent road commissioners upon the
terms prescribed in the last preceding section, they are author-
ized to appoint proper persons to act as road commissioners,
which persons shall be real estate owners in the district for which
they may be appointed, to whom they may allow a compensation
of two dollars per day for each day they may be actually
