1938 WASHINGTON COUNTY. [ART. 22.

1868, ch. 76.

88. No fines or forfeitures imposed under any ordinance of
said town shall exceed the sum of twenty dollars for any offence,
and all such fines and forfeitures shall be recoverable before the
burgess, for the use of the corporation, as small debts are
collected before a justice of the peace.

CLERK.

1884, ch 53

89. The clerk of the circuit court is directed to make a full
and general index, in a book well bound and suitable for the
purpose, of all judgments recovered or recorded in said court, in
the name of each defendant in said judgments, and also showing
the name of the plaintiff, the amount of each judgment, the date
of signing or recording, the date from which it bears interest, the
term of court, and the number on the docket; and if the records
of the court show that the same has been satisfied, made or in any
way discharged, the said index shall also set forth such fact.

COAL.

P. L. L., (1860,) art. 21, sec. 88.

90. It shall not be lawful to sell or purchase stone coal in said
county by measure, but all stone coal sold and purchased in said
county shall be sold and purchased by weight, at the rate of
twenty-two hundred and forty-two pounds avoirdupois to the ton.

COUNTY COMMISSIONERS.

91. There shall be five county commissioners for Washington
county.

92. At their annual meetings, they shall appoint a fit person,
a resident of said county, to be their clerk.

before one of said commissioners, take and subscribe the follow-
