the name of " The Commissioners of Crisfield," and by that name
may sue and be sued, have and use a common seal, and have per-
petual succession.

55. The said commissioners shall be five in number, and each
commissioner shall hold his office for five years, unless sooner
vacated by death, resignation, removal or otherwise; and any
person, to be eligible as a commissioner, must be the owner of a
freehold or leasehold estate within the limits of said town, and
must have resided in the State one year, and have resided or
carried on his principal business or occupation within the town
limits six months preceding his election.

56. The male citizens of said' town, over twenty-one years of
age, who have resided therein twelve months preceding any elec-
tion, and all male citizens over twenty-one years of age residing
in Somerset county, and owning a freehold estate or leasehold
property for a term exceeding two years, within the limits of said'
town, shall elect by ballot on the first Wednesday in June, in each
and every year, a commissioner, who shall hold his office for five
years, in the place of the commissioner whose term of office shall
then have expired.

57. All elections for said commissioners shall be held at such
place within the limits of said town as they shall designate; and
they shall be judges of said election, and the proceedings thereof
shall be recorded under their direction.

58. Every person elected a commissioner, before entering upon
the duties of his office, shall make oath before a justice of the
peace that he will diligently and faithfully, without favor, partial-
ity or prejudice, perform the duties of commissioner, a certificate
of which qualification shall be returned by the justice to the com-
missioners, and be filed and recorded among their proceedings.

59. Every commissioner, before proceeding to act as judge of
