1682 QUEEN ANNE'S COUNTY. [ART. 18.

proper, not exceeding four hundred dollars; and he is empowered
to administer an oath or affirmation to any account to any person
presenting a claim to the commissioners, against the county; but
he shall not administer such oath or affirmation in any other
place than in his office, and he shall be allowed the usual fee of
a justice of the peace for the same services.

130. The county commissioners may levy on the assessable
property of said county, for the use of the commissioners of the
town of Centreville, annually, such sum of money as in their
judgment may be just and equitable, to assist the said town Com-
missioners to keep the roads and streets in said town in proper
repair and order; the same to be paid to the proper officer of the
town commissioners, who are invested with the control thereof.

131. It shall and may be lawful for the county commissioners
to appoint one of their number as treasurer, and when so ap-
pointed, the said treasurer shall give bond to the State of Mary-
land in the penalty of twenty thousand dollars, conditioned for
the faithful discharge of the duties of said office, and shall re-
ceive such compensation as said commissioners may determine,
not exceeding two per cent, on the amount of money distributed.

1880, ch. 221.

132. They are authorized and empowered to make such by-
laws, rules, orders and regulations (not inconsistent with the laws
of this State,) as shall be necessary for the protection of bridges
in Queen Anne's county; and any person violating any of the
said by-laws, rules, orders or regulations relating to the rate of
speed, by driving over any of the bridges in said county at a rate
of speed faster than a walk, shall forfeit and pay to the said
county commissioners the sum of one dollar for each and every
such offence, to be recovered before any justice of the peace in
said county, in the name of the county commissioners; and on
refusal to pay said fine and costs, he shall be committed by such
justice of the peace to the jail of Queen Anne's county until
the same are paid.
