16 ALLEGANY COUNTY. [ART. 1.

all cases where removals shall take place under the preceding
section, the court may direct the transfer of the original papers
in such cases to the circuit court for Garrett county instead of
causing a copy of the record to be so transmitted.

COUNTY COMMISSIONERS.

30. There shall be five county commissioners for Allegany
county.

1878, ch. 81.

31. They shall meet on the first Monday in January, second
Monday in April, first Thursday in July and second Monday in
October in each year, and may call special meetings whenever
they, or a majority of them, may think proper.

32. They may classify the business of the court and designate
the meetings at which the several classes of business shall be dis-
posed of.

33. They shall direct the supervisors of roads to erect and
keep up at the expense of the county, at all public cross-roads,
and where public roads fork, indexes or finger boards, pointing
to the nearest town, mill or other public place to which said road
leads, with the names of the places and the distances thereto,
legibly inscribed thereon; and the supervisors shall render an
account of the expenses thereof to the county commissioners, to-
be levied as other county charges.

34. At their meetings in January in each year they shall
appoint a suitable person, a resident of Allegany county, as their
clerk, who shall hold his office for one year, and until the qualifi-
cation of his successor, but who shall be removable at their
pleasure. He shall give bond to the State of Maryland, in the
penalty of one thousand dollars, with sureties to be approved by
said commissioners, conditioned for the faithful performance of
