1544 MONTGOMERY COUNTY. [ART. 16.

tend at his said office at all times, (Sundays excepted, in person
or by deputy, for the transaction of. business, under the penalty
of forty dollars for each month he shall fail to comply herewith,
to be recovered by indictment in the circuit court, for the use of
the county.

217. He shall be allowed forty cents a day and no more for
keeping and boarding each prisoner committed to the jail of said
county.

TAXES.

1876, ch. 300.

218. All persons and incorporated institutions in Montgomery
county, that shall pay their county taxes on or before the first day
of September of the year for which they were levied, shall be en-
titled to a deduction of five per centum on the amount of said
taxes; all that shall pay the same on or before the first day of
October of said year, shall be entitled to a deduction of four per
centum, and all that shall pay the same on or before the first day
of November of said year, shall be entitled to a deduction of
three per centum; and at the time of receiving said taxes the
collector of said county, shall make the deduction aforesaid, and
note the same upon the receipts given to the persons or incorpor-
ated institutions so paying.

219. All county taxes collected under the provisions of the
preceding section, shall be used exclusively in the payment of the
county levies for the year in which the same may be placed in the
hands of the collectors, and one-half of each yearly levy shall be
due and payable to the holders thereof on or before the first day
of October, and the other half on or before the first day of Janu-
ary of each year.
