138 ANNE ARUNDEL COUNTY. [ART. 2,

170. The county commissioners shall annually settle and
balance their account with the said bank, and the surplus, if
any, shall be applied by them to the use of the county.

JUSTICES OF THE PEACE AND CONSTABLES.

171. There shall be the following number of justices of the
peace and constables for Anne Arundel county, to wit: for elec-
tion 'district number one, five justices of the peace and three
constables; for election district number two, five justices of the
peace and three constables; for election district number three,
five justices of the peace and three constables; for election dis-
trict number four, five justices of the peace and three constables;
for election district number five, five justices of the peace and
three constables; for election district number six, four justices of
the peace and two constables; for election district number eight,
five justices of the peace and three constables.

172. No justice of the peace or constable residing in the city
of Annapolis shall have jurisdiction over the citizens resi-
dent of Anne Arundel county whilst within the limits of said
city, by issuing or serving summons for the recovery of small
debts due and owing to citizens of Annapolis.

173. No justice of the peace or constable residing in Anne
Arundel county, outside of the city of Annapolis, shall have
jurisdiction over the citizens of Annapolis, by issuing or
serving summons for the recovery of small debts due and
owing to persons, inhabitants of Anne Arundel county.

174. The justices of the peace in and for Anne Arundel,
Dorchester, Kent, Caroline, Calvert, Carroll, Queen Anne's,
Prince George's, Harford, Charles and Worcester counties, shall
have jurisdiction over and may take cognizance of all actions of
assault and battery in which the damages claimed do not exceed
