1306 HARFORD COUNTY. [ART. 13.

tions, he may plead the general issue and give the special
matter in evidence; and if upon trial a verdict shall be rendered
for the defendant, or the plaintiff be nonsuited or discontinue,
the defendant shall recover treble costs; and if the plaintiff be
unable to satisfy the same, they shall be paid by the attorney who-
brought or prosecuted the suit, unless the plaintiff shall give
security for the costs, to be approved by the court.

BAILIFFS.

P. L. L., (1860,) art. 12, sec. 22.

21. The collectors of the different election districts shall pay
to the said bailiffs, immediately upon the termination of every
court, such sum of money as .they shall severally be entitled to
receive for such attendance, and a certificate signed by the clerk
of the circuit court, stating the number of days any bailiff haa
attended said court, and the sum due him, shall be sufficient
authority to the collectors to pay the amount therein specified.

22. The corporate limits of the town of Belair, in Harford
county, shall be contained within the following metes and bounds,
to wit: beginning at the northwest corner of Emanuel church lot,
and running north fifty-four degrees, east one hundred and
twenty-eight perches to the Hickory road-; thence south three
degrees, west thirty-eight and thirty-six hundredths perches with
said road; thence south eighty-one degrees, east twelve and forty-
eight hundreths perches; thence south twenty degrees, east five
and four hundredths perches; thence south thirteen degrees, east
twenty-eight and fifty-two hundredths perches; thence south
thirty-four degrees, east fifty-three perches; thence south thirty
degrees, east eighty-four and twenty-four hundredths perches to
the Farnandis land; thence south seventy-eight degrees, west
fifty-two and fifty-two hundredths perches to the Abingdon road ;
thence south forty-five degrees, west fifty-five and twenty-four hun-
dredths perches; thence north forty-nine degrees, west forty-one
and sixty-four hundredths perches; thence north forty degrees, west
two hundred and one and eighty hundredths perches; thence
