to show that they are Canada thistles; such fine to be recovered
before any justice of the peace, as other small fines are now;
recovered, and the proceeds of such fines to be paid to the county
commissioners.

227. No road supervisor in said county shall permit any such
Canada thistle to grow upon any land appurtenant to any public
road in said county, adjoining or being part of any road under his
charge; and if any such supervisor shall permit the same, he shall
be liable to the fine provided in the preceding section, to be recov-
ered for the use of said county as provided in the preceding
section.
WILD ANIMALS.
1878, ch. 108.
228. Any citizen of this State who shall kill or destroy any
wolf, panther, wild cat or fox, within the limits of Garrett county,
shall be entitled to the following allowance, viz: for every wolf
scalp, the sum of twenty dollars; for every panther scalp, the sum
of twenty dollars; for every wild cat scalp, the sum of two dol-
lars ; and for every fox scalp, the sum of one dollar.

229. To obtain such allowance it shall be necessary for the
person killing such animal to produce the head, skin or scalp of
the same before some justice of the peace for said county, and at
the same time make oath that the animal was taken and killed
within the limits of Garrett county, within twenty-five days
before the production of the head, skin or scalp before the justice,
and said justice shall thereupon give the person producing the
same a certificate that such head, skin or scalp was produced
before him, wherein he shall set forth the above-mentioned oath;
and it shall also be the duty of the justice to mark any such head,
skin or scalp by cutting holes through the ear, to prevent any
second allowance for the same.
